I am a licensed psychologist and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. I continued my training at Stanford University completing an internship and post-doctoral residency and then worked there as a staff psychologist.
In addition to private practice, for the last 20 years I have worked in hospital outpatient and community mental health clinics, university counseling centers, and as a clinical professor. I have researched, published, and presented internationally on topics related to psychotherapy and clients' unique contributions in the change process.
I draw upon principles of mindfulness, cognitive, experiential and emotion focused therapies. As a scientist-clinician, I utilize methods that are proven to promote healing and growth. These methods require both client and therapist to be active, courageous, and open.
As a person, I am down-to-earth, easy to talk to, compassionate, and have a sense of humor. I am deeply respectful of my clients' strengths and wisdom and am a careful listener and observer of the spoken and the unspoken. This deep understanding of you informs the impressions and ideas that I share. I don't implement a rote cookie-cutter approach.
Feedback about whether you are getting what you want out of therapy is always welcome, allowing me to adapt to your individual needs.
